Our Sustainability Leaders
Jon Nichols - Director of Sustainability
Jon is a seasoned climate scientist and sustainability professional with over 15 years of experience in the field. He holds a Ph.D. in Geological Sciences from Brown University and has worked on significant projects, including climate modeling for NASA and extensive research at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University.
At NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, Jon led scientific expeditions and used environmental data to construct statistical models of drought and flood, further validating predictive models of climate change. His time at Lamont-Doherty involved leading projects to quantify and create models of Arctic climate change, launching international collaborations, and advising the NYC DEP on mitigating sea-level rise impacts.
Since March 2021, Jon has been the Director of Sustainability at Mac Properties, where he has driven key sustainability initiatives. His work includes developing strategies to reduce the environmental impact of buildings, implementing energy-efficient systems, and enhancing climate resilience.
Jeanne Gang - Partner Architect
Jeanne Gang is a renowned American architect, a Professor in Practice at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and the founding principal of Studio Gang. Her design philosophy emphasizes natural light, sustainability, connection to nature, community engagement, innovative design, and human-centered spaces.
Her project footprint permeates the city of Chicago, including Vista Tower, Aqua Tower and the 101-story St. Regis that redefined Chicago's skyline, University of Chicago Campus North Residential Commons, Chicago River Boathouses, and the upcoming Chicago O'Hare Global Terminal.
Mac Properties has partnered with Gang on several signature high-rises, such as One Hundred Above the Park in St. Louis, Solstice on the Park, City Hyde Park, and 5252 South Cornell in Chicago. Mac Properties' commitment to innovative and sustainable urban living is evident in having Jeanne Gang design many of its signature buildings.
Strategically Coordinated Portfolio
Mac strategically coordinates its real estate portfolio to efficiently share and utilize resources across nearby properties. By grouping assets in concentrated areas, Mac is able to leverage shared infrastructure, personnel, and operational resources to achieve greater economies of scale and optimize the deployment of sustainable technologies and practices.
This localized, interconnected portfolio design allows Mac to holistically manage energy, water, waste, and other environmental impacts across its nearby buildings and sites. Mac's intentional placement and integration of its real estate assets enables the company to pursue ambitious sustainability goals and operational synergies that would be more challenging with isolated, distant properties.
The close-knit portfolio also fosters a more cohesive, high-quality living experience for its residents.
Join Us in Making a Difference
